Five Fun Facts About CBD

| #CBD, #Education Five Fun Facts about CBD

With knowledge of CBD on the rise, we thought we’d explore a few fun facts about CBD you might not know. Read on and get ready to impress your friends and family at your next in-person or virtual gathering!

CBD Was First Isolated in 1942 for Use in the Rubber Industry

The use of cannabis dates back centuries ago. The first documented case is in 2737 BC when Sheng Neng, the Chinese Emperor, used cannabis-infused tea for the treatment of malaria, gout, memory, and rheumatic. It is also believed that Queen Victoria used CBD to ease menstrual cramps. Those are certainly interesting facts about CBD!

The very first cannabinoids were isolated in 1942 when scientists were researching new ways to integrate natural substances in the manufacture of rubber. Roger Adams, a professor at the University of Illinois, officially isolated THC and CBD from the cannabis plant. This made it easier for researchers to accurately determine what compounds in the cannabis plant cause which effects.

CBD Doesn’t Cause a High

Most people fail to realize that CBD isn’t psychoactive – which means it doesn’t lead to a high. Unlike THC, which alters brain functions, CBD has neuroprotective properties that protect the user’s brain cells. This means it cannot lead to substance abuse, chemical dependency, and withdrawal syndrome.

However, this doesn’t mean that CBD has no side effects. Some individuals report having negative effects when using CBD products, like dry mouth and tiredness. It’s always best to start with a small does before diving headfirst into CBD use. Doing this ensures you can accurately determine whether the product works well for you.

CBD Doesn’t Need a Prescription

Contrary to what most people believe, you don’t need a prescription from any medical authority – including your doctor – to buy CBD products.

The FDA does not regulate the use of CBD and only one drug is currently approved, called Epidiolex. This is used to treat rare seizure forms and is the only CBD medication that needs a prescription.

Cannabis has an uncertain relationship in the United States. In the 1920s, the use of the cannabis plant was banned by several states. However, regulators began contemplating its medicinal value in the 1970s.

Luckily, the federal government initiated a bill to differentiate marijuana and hemp. Removing hemp from the list of restricted substances ensures it is accessible to everyone. Currently, CBD is legal in all 50 states and is sold worldwide online.

CBD Should Not Cause an Individual to Fail a Drug Test

According to recent research, CBD does not react with commercially available drug tests used by employers. However, it depends on the purity of the product. What may show up in your test is the THC component found in CBD products. Since the CBD market is unregulated, that is why it’s so important to buy high-quality CBD from a company that offers third-party testing. This way, you can see what is in the product and determine if that particular product is right for you.
